Project Description: Birth index data previously entered without mother's maiden name details will be progressively revised to add mother's maiden name. This will be done commencing with the earliers births and completed for each sub-district in turn.

22 Dec 2016Over the course of 2016 index entries for a total of 270,010 births have been updated on LancashireBMD to include mother's maiden name. Four volunteers are now working at Central Library adding MMN to registers deposited with Archives.
24 Aug 2016Work continues at both the Register Office and at Central Library. At the former, indexing is in progress on entries up to c1960 but not yet ready to upload. At Central Library, data for the Ardwick/A district has been completed and uploaded. Work is in hand on the earlier Ardwick registers and on those for Hulme.
01 Jan 2016Over the course of 2015 index entries for a total of 290,233 births have been updated on LancashireBMD to include mother's maiden name. Three volunteers are now working at Central Library adding MMN to registers deposited with Archives.
06 Oct 2015Volunteers have now begun work at Central Library to add MMN to index entries for registers now deposited in Archives. The initial priority will be Central, Rusholme and Newton Heath sub-districts, for which only a small number of books remain to be completed to complete the addition of MMN for the entire series of registers.
04 Sep 2015Mother's maiden names have been added for the St George sub-district 1837-1881 and for births registered 1916-1925 for most of the registration district.
05 Jan 2015Index entries for the Market Street, London Road and Deansgate sub-districts now replaced with updated entries.
24 Jun 2014Data for the Ancoats sub-district 1837-1881 has now been replaced by data including mother's maiden name.
11 Dec 2013Work on adding mother's maiden name is now progressing well with Ancoats sub-district well advanced and Market Street and London Road also started.
26 Jul 2013Work commenced on adding mother's maiden name to births for Ancoats sub-district 1837-1881. This involves some 248,000 books and approximately 124,000 index entries.
