This search facility will help you to discover which map or maps in the Alan Godfrey reproductions of old Ordnance Survey maps of Manchester includes a street in which you have an interest. The index contains references to some 15,750 street and building names which appear on 30 individual maps. The maps concerned cover central Manchester circa 1848 at a scale of 36 inches to the mile and Central Manchester and the surrounding suburbs at various dates 1889 to 1932 at a scale of 15 inches to the mile.
Entering a street or building name into the search box below should return a list of streets which match your query alongside the Godfrey map sheet on which each can be found.. If no details are returned, the street has not been recognised. There is currently no facility to accept "wild card" characters in the surnames submitted.
When searching you are strongly recommended to minimise the amount of information which you type in the search box. The search will find any street name in which the specified word(s) appear, such that 'bridge' will produce results for 'Bridge Street' and 'New Bridge Street'. HOWEVER entering 'bridge street' will NOT produce a result if the name is recorded as 'New Bridge St.'
Alongside each street name is a link to the MLFHS online bookshop page for the map concerned, where you should find a description of the map contents and will be able to order a copy of the map online.
